CJ Cooper, founder of Flutterbug Creations, writes and produces unique board action books incorporating Velcro with specialised design that helps children understand page sequencing – particularly important for children with learning difficulties.

CJ Cooper devised and developed these pull apart and put together velcro bound books herself when she was unable to find anything on the market suitable enough to engage her own son in enjoying and reading books. There is no other book product that is as innovative or as interesting on the market (especially for children who have learning difficulties) or that can stimulate such fantastic interaction between the child and their parent, carer, teacher or another child

These unique books are aimed at all children aged 2-5 but also at older children who have additional needs – they are ideal for children with autism and/or sensory integration disorders. The books are also great tools for helping children to be interested in and understand books more by having fun elements.

Pull apart and put together velcro books for little hands that can be dismantled and reassembled over and over again and making a fantastic noise every time. This is highly engaging for children whether or not they have learning difficulties.

The books are 14cm wide x 14cm high

CJ's books introduce an entirely new concept of reading for children. Each book offers learning in a discreet way, and more importantly, in a fun way. The interactive format stimulates engagement of the child with the books through active learning and promotes the development of language concepts and sequencing. The level of physical interaction with the board book format allows for a high level of supportive dialogue with the child.

There has been an overwhelmingly positive response to the books from health professionals, educational psychologists and parents and carers.

“I have designed a range of unique supportive learning books aimed primarily for children with additional needs.

They are a new concept - nothing like them on the market at all and have received great letters of recommendation from an Educational Psychologist and the local Education Authority, as well as great feedback and encouragement from Epilepsy Scotland and an accreditor from The National Autistic Society.

The books (4 titles: Billy Silly, Where's Moppie, Mischievous Mirky and Eat up) have a basic storyline (with exception to Eat up - this is an images only book) with an educational slant and colourful images.

There are diagrams at the bottom of the page - ideal for children with additional needs as this gives them a visual prompt to know where they are in the book. They can be pulled apart and put together again as they are bound using velcro, which gives great sound effects - ideal for children with sensory needs!

The books are inspired from my own experiences of having a child with epilepsy and other developmental delays who wouldn't look at a book when he was younger, so I made him one and he loved it!” CJ Cooper
